Achievements
AFSRT focuses on sustainable and ecological agriculture, enhancing urban and rural communities’ well-being through training and support in environmental management, biodiversity protection, food security, WASH, waste management, disaster risk reduction, emergency response, and market development. Below are our achievements over the years:
- OXFAM NOVIB’s Emergency Recovery Programme (2013) built the capacity of local partners to provide relief aid to communities affected by disasters and conflicts.
- IITA N2Africa phase 2 (2016-2018) aimed to improve the productivity and profitability of legume crops by enhancing biological nitrogen fixation and soil fertility in 13 African countries, including Uganda.
- ICCO, HAM, BD Joint Food Nutrition Security programmes (2013- 2015) worked with seven NGOs to improve food security, nutrition, and livelihoods of vulnerable households in Lango Sub Region through integrated interventions such as crop diversification, agroforestry, animal husbandry, and microfinance.
- ICCO Cooperation and Water for People Sanitation as a Business (SAAB) project (2015-2016) supported the establishment of a DEFAST plant that converts fecal sludge into organic fertilizer and biogas in Lango and Acholi regions. The project also promoted sanitation marketing and hygiene behavior change among communities and schools. The project was later supported by adephi funding from EU under the Green Growth Finance Accelerator (UGEFA) programme (2021/22).
- ICCO-CCA Carbon Project Development (2012-2015) focused on climate change adaptation, fair trade, capacity building, training, and participatory disaster risk assessment for smallholder farmers in Uganda. The project also facilitated the development of carbon credits from agroforestry systems and renewable energy technologies.
- VODP2/IFAD and Government of Uganda: Consultancy services for agricultural extension and business partnership development for 400 vegetable oilseeds farmer groups in six districts from 2012 to 2018.
- FAO: Commercial rice production development for smallholder farmers and SMEs in Lira and Kole districts from 2013 to 2015.
- ICCO: CT & D policy analysis and advocacy for post-conflict food security recovery and economic empowerment for 1,250 households from 2010 to 2012.
- ICCO WASH: Food security, nutrition, livelihoods, and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions for communities in Alebtong district from 2012 to 2015.
- BD: Agribusiness and market development for 1,500 households using agro-ecology and climate smart agriculture from 2011 to 2022.
- DONATA: Livelihoods and economic growth improvement for farmers in ECA through OFSP technologies, value addition, and seed vine distribution in 2012/13.
- Embassy of Japan: Increased production, accessibility, and utilization of staple crops, storage, and PHH for farmer groups in Lango sub region in 2012/15 and 2018/21.
- EU, ICCO, Dean Foundation, Media Focus Africa: Social change through “Yat Madit” for over 30,000 intercultural diverse communities affected by land conflicts in Lango, Teso, and Acholi sub regions.
- OSSUP-IFAD SNV: Vegetable oil seed sub-sector platform development and sustainable smallholder producer inclusion from 2014 to 2018.
- Brot-Bread for the World: Climate resilient agriculture, participatory assessment of climate and disaster risks, and integrated watershed management for 2000 communities in Lango Sub Region from 2017 to 2022.
- ICCO/HAM/BD: Post-conflict food security recovery and economic empowerment for returnees through agricultural development project implemented by AFSRT and other partners from 2013 to 2015.
- Nwo-Wotro: Income security for rural farmers through cashew nut research programme in Northern Uganda from 2013 to 2017.
- Simavi WASH Acceleration 2016-2017 improved water and sanitation access for 10,000 10,000 people in Agago district by installing modular piped water systems, public toilets, and promoting faecal sludge management and hygiene practices.
- Simavi WASH SDG 2018-2023 focused on sustainable water and sanitation services by introducing climate-smart technologies, strengthening local governance, and enhancing community participation.
- GIZ PRUDEV Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) for rural farmers in Lango Sub Region, Northern Uganda 2021-2022.
- Participated in the National Land Awareness Week (LAW) 27th Aug to 1st Sept, 2023 supported by Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD), GIZ, PELUM Uganda and partners.
